Welcome

Welcome to Phyllis Williams LMFT, PC. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist with over 22 years experience providing behavioral health services to children, adults, couples, and families. Fun fact, Marriage and Family Therapist  were originally called Marriage Family Child Counselors. This said, a great deal of our training is centered around healing emotional wounds that are fashioned in childhood. These emotional wounds can become impediments that shape our thinking and behaviors in unhealthy ways. When this occurs, they can effect our ability to form healthy relationships, feel comfortable with trust and vulnerability in relationships, and lead productive and satisfying lives. Psychotherapy can help you unpack the past and move forward with positive intention.

I specialize in the treatment of  childhood trauma, anxiety disorders (excessive worrying, intrusive/unwanted thoughts), depression (feeling unmotivated, sad, or stuck), PTSD, ADHD, OCD, couples in conflict, and parent/child issues. I work best with individuals who are ready to do the emotional work and prefer a hands-on and action-oriented psychotherapeutic approach to promote change.

I approach treatment using Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy which helps individuals to identify beliefs that lack value (beliefs that are negative and only serve to keep patients feeling hurt, fearful, and stuck); and I teach tools to manage negative emotions, increase positive thoughts, and behaviors. I also employ cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, polyvagal techniques, and psychoeducation to help patients better understand how their brain works so they can improve emotional regulation.

The good news is that you are here... seeking to improve your emotional health and I do believe that I can support you in navigating the next phase of your life.
